Lost in the Concrete Jungle? How to Navigate New York City like a Pro

solo female travel sharing travel tips for navigating nyc

Hi amigas, if think anything that faces you is north, chances are you’re directionally challenged and in good company 🤠

I love nothing more than walking aimlessly through a big city. The smells, the people, the sounds, all good vibes until you find you wanderlusted too far and now your lost or in a sketchy part of the city.

I got you, we’re homies now. 🤝

Follow these tips to navigate NYC like a pro 🗽🚇🗺️

1️⃣ Download the subway map or use a navigation app. The subway is the most efficient way to get around NYC, so take some time to learn the different lines, routes, and stops. My personal fav navigation apps are @rome.to.rio and @googlemaps.
2️⃣ Use landmarks to orient yourself. NYC is full of iconic landmarks, such as the Empire State Building. These landmarks help you navigate the city and figure out which direction you're heading in.
3️⃣ Walk. The subway is great for getting around quickly, walking is often the best way to explore NYC and get a feel for the different neighborhoods. Wear comfortable shoes and be prepared to walk several blocks at a time.
4️⃣ Pay attention to street signs. NYC is a grid system so it’s to navigate. However, it's important to pay attention to the street signs and to be aware of where you are in relation to the avenues and streets.
5️⃣ Ask for help. New Yorkers get a bad wrap for being “unfriendly” but most people are happy to help if you ask politely.
